Built on the site of Edward Miles' coffee house — one of the first in London, dating from 1663. Licensed as a pub since 1752, first as the Barley Mow, then the Green Man, before being renamed after the Marquess of Anglesey, who lost a leg to one of the last cannon shots at Waterloo. A Young's pub right next to the Royal Opera House. The rooftop terrace is the standout feature — retractable roof, views across theatreland. WWII shrapnel damage is still visible on the exterior if you look. Try not to fall over on the terrace; a member of our group who shall remain unnamed has done exactly this.
