Brian Epstein lived around the corner at 24 Chapel Street, which made The Horse & Groom his local by default. The Beatles held band meetings at Epstein's flat and came here for the nearest pint — fifty metres down a cobbled Belgravia mews. There are black-and-white photos of the band on the walls from that era, and the pub has been serving since at least 1852. It's a genuine mews pub, built to service the stables behind the big townhouses, and it still feels like it exists slightly outside the rest of London. Epstein was found dead at the Chapel Street house on 27 August 1967. You'll walk past it on the way to the next stop.
