Part of one crawl

The Art Nouveau tiled facade — running from pavement to roofline gable, dated 1898 — was designed by William J. Neatby of Doulton & Co., the same artist who did the interior of Harrods' food hall. The Fox & Anchor sits on the edge of Smithfield Market and held one of London's early-morning licences: it used to open at 6:30am for the meat porters. Black-and-white portraits of the butchers and porters line the interior. Open until 1am on Saturdays, with six bedrooms upstairs if the crawl has broken you. The penultimate stop — Farringdon is ten minutes away.
