The Monument

A Greene King pub at 18 Fish Street Hill, directly beneath the Monument to the Great Fire. The column itself is 202 feet tall and 202 feet from the Pudding Lane bakery where the fire began in 1666 — designed by Robert Hooke, not Wren, which is worth knowing for pub-quiz purposes. The pub is a straightforward City local: cask ales, British menu, screens showing sport. At this point you're twenty pubs deep and the quality of the architecture matters less than the fact that it's open and serving.
